The past few years have been seeing a major shift for many businesses to a primarily online presence, but there were many still holding out – this past year in particular has seen a growing shift to those holding out before though and leading the way for a new opportunity in business. There are many that have made the transition successfully and had managed to see huge growth in numbers, one of the best examples is certainly within the gaming market as the growth of non-UK casinos continues to attracted growing numbers of players and could continue if land-based locations remain unable to re-open and how other opportunities in gaming through streaming and content creation have only grown recently, and may help lead the way for location independent business to develop their own strategies too.

The major shift toward remote working is certainly the first step in the change, in provides a lot more flexibility in the day to day working schedule and provides opportunities for those who would’ve otherwise been stuck in the regular 9-5 to explore new options, when combined with services like Fiverr which allows users to turn their profession into a freelanced option without all of the difficulty of building an actual freelance business themselves. With enough interest, it may allow for many to turn a part-time passion or hobby into a full-time location independent business. With the rise of remote working visas becoming more available too, it may lead to other individuals becoming more willing to travel whilst doing their work, and further opportunities for new business to develop.
The same may be true for small business and not just individuals too – remote work has helped grow platforms like Zoom which will only continue to develop further, but many businesses have realised they may not necessarily need a physical location in order to operate and with small teams being able to move to primarily remote options, it could lead others to follow the same path and become fully location independent, and a major shift for further development in the platforms that have enabled the change to happen.
For big business, however, there may be little change at all whilst some still grapple with the idea of remote work changes on a more permanent basis, and may still rely on the same permanent locations to operate as they had done before – for those that have unfortunately had to close due to the past year however, it may still provide different options for change in business if there is an opportunity to re-open, or if there’s an opportunity for new business to take its place.
